IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sammy Allen
Davis
September 25, 1940 – December 21, 2024
Sammy Allen Davis, born September 25, 1940 to George Ocie and Eppie Marie Davis, December 21, 2024 went home to be with our Lord and Savior.
In the days leading up to Sam's passing he was doing his usual - planting a few plants in the garden, started watching Yellowstone series on DVD after watching the last season, rode around on his buggy, visited neighbors, and called random people for nightly updates.
Sam was one of the middle sons born to his parents and was known by "Sambo", "Tank", and "Tubs" - All of his brothers would tell you Sam worked harder than anyone, whether it was on the Baseball or Cotton Field.
Sam's story is 84 years long, although he enjoyed playing baseball, he usually ended up working in cotton fields more. He went into the army and served in Korea after the War. Upon his return he met and married his wife Carolyn and fathered 3 children. In the early years of marriage they chased construction jobs and eventually landed in West Columbia in 1966 and remained there until 2022 at which time they moved to Shepherd, Texas.
Sam was known to be tough as nails and never met a stranger. His career spanned from insulator construction work, Sod farm foreman, to Dow Chemical Operator, was a self-employed landscaper and finally 20+ years working at Brazoria County Courthouse as the Maintenance Manager. Upon his retirement a common statement was, "The halls sure are quiet without his whistling and popping in to say 'Hello.'" In retirement Sam mowed lots of neighbors grass, liked to supply the community with vegetables out of the garden and loved sharing stories with family and friends about the Good Ole Bad Days.
Sam is survived by his wife, Carolyn Davis; son, Russell Davis and Che; daughters, Elaina Efird and Lance, and Shelley R. Davis; grandchildren, Christopher Bledsoe and Brittney, Zac Davis and Megan, Ryan Efird and Kayla, Bretlyn Efird, Madeline Davis, and Carey Camp; and great grandchildren, Cayden, Kaitlyn, Waylon, Brianne, Colton, Alana, Delilah, and Samual; as well as many friends he held dear.
