Sara Jeanne Northrop Clamon of Livingston, TX passed from this earth to her heavenly home on April 21, 2022, at the age of 88. She was a loving daughter, sister, and friend, and a devoted and beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She remained an active member in her church home, most recently Central Baptist Church of Livingston for 35 years, until she was no longer physically able to attend. Faith, family, and friends were the essence of her life.
Sara was born in Houston, Tx on August 26, 1933, to parents Charles and Daisy Northrop. Her father spent most of his career in civil service with the Lighthouse Service division of the Coast Guard, and her mother was a homemaker who instilled in Sara her love of caring for her home and family. She had one brother, Charles Jr. She lived in Galveston, TX most of her formative years, where she grew up happy and well loved by her small, close-knit family.
While Sara's immediate family was small, she broadened her circle by gathering close friends as she walked through life. Best childhood friends Millie Daniels Northrop and Jane Noel Witt became lifelong companions. She cherished all her girlfriends, laughed with them, shared life with them, and prayed for their needs. Many passed before her, and she grieved each loss deeply.
Sara graduated from Sam Houston State Teaching College in 1953. While there she met and married Ray Clamon, who she joined in Columbus Georgia upon graduation. It was there that they began their family with the birth of daughter Vickie in 1955. They moved back to Texas upon Ray's honorable discharge from the army and their second daughter, Jeanne, was born in Pasadena Texas which was their home until they retired thirty years later.
The great tragedy of Sara's life was the loss of her mother in 1960 when Sara was only 27 years old. But despite that loss, she made a house a home for her husband and daughters. She was a fabulous cook, and the house was most often full of the aroma of baking cookies or pies. She was also an accomplished seamstress who kept her daughters dressed in the latest fashions. With both daughters grown, Sara entered the business world and put her accounting skills to work at Western Electric Federal Credit Union. She worked there alongside her dear friend Jo Vandegriff for many years and loved her work until she retired to Livingston Tx in 1988. Her retirement years were full of adventures that no city girl should have enjoyed, but she threw herself into life in the country naming each cow and canning fruits and vegetables. Her five grandchildren visited her often and loved playing on her hay bales, eating fresh watermelon and homemade ice cream, and running up and down her wide hall. Holidays were always special memories in her home.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Ray Clamon, her parents Charles and Daisy Northrop, her brother and his wife Charles Jr. and Millie Northrop. Those left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy include her two daughters and their husbands, Vickie and Glenn Cole and Jeanne and Keith Haswell, her five grandchildren and their spouses Aaron and Becky Cole, Morgan Cole, Chelsea and Joey DeLeon, Alyson Haswell and Josh Thorpe, and Oliver and Lindsay Haswell, her six great-grandchildren Asher, Sadie, and Tristan Cole, Storie and Nadia Stout, Lily and and Rhory DeLeon, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, including Harold Barfield who she considered an honorary brother.
Pallbearers: Glenn Cole, Aaron Cole, Morgan Cole, Keith Haswell, Joey DeLeon, Josh Thorpe
