Obituary

Graveside services for Sarah Elizabeth Cox, 88, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Livingston, Texas with Pastor Kevin Wood and Pastor Brian Bowden officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Pace Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.

Sarah was born November 25, 1933 in San Jacinto County, Texas to parents, Pat Walker and Sudie (Winfrey) Walker, and passed away February 5, 2022 in Livingston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Cox; granddaughter, Dana Lee Cox; grandson, Jody Wayne Cox; and 6 siblings.

After graduating from Coldspring High School, Sarah met the love of her life, Bill Cox, at the Fain Theater in Livingston. Soon after, Bill enlisted in the US Army. Sarah moved to Houston and went to work for the Port of Houston Barge Company until his return. The two were married in November of 1954. After moving to Livingston, she continued to work for various businesses including Livingston Jewelry, Polk County Tax Assessor's office, First State Bank, and Gabriel Jordan Ford.

She spent many late nights taking her son and daughter to rodeos. When the Polk County Youth Rodeo was happening, her home became a bed and breakfast for the Schroeder Rodeo clan. Later in life, Sarah enjoyed helping her 2 grandsons raise show chickens with many Champion Pens. She was also known for her pies at all the family reunions. After retiring, she traveled to Louisiana, Mississippi, and numerous Texas counties researching family genealogy.  Sarah was also a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Livingston.

She is survived by her daughter, Bobbie Epstein of Livingston, Texas; son, Billy Wayne Cox and wife, Denice also of Livingston; grandson, Casey J. Freeland and wife, Kristin of Niceville, Florida; grandson, Cody Freeland of Texas; grandson, J.W. Epstein and wife, Brandi of Amarillo, Texas; grandson, Tyler Epstein and wife, Courtney of Conroe, Texas; granddaughter, Elizabeth Cox Bowden and husband, Brian of Mont Belvieu, Texas; 9 great-grandchildren; her brother-by-choice, Allen Netzel; and sister-in-law, Shirley Cox; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

A very special thank you to the doctors and staff at Pine Ridge Nursing Home and Dr. Jerry Wood and his staff for all the excellent care that was given to Ms. Cox.
