Sherrill Francine Oetgen Canet, of Livingston, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the age of 81.
Born in Macomb, Illinois, to Lloyd Homer Oetgen and Doris Mae Jackson Moates on April 15, 1945, Sherrill lived a life marked by love, kindness, and devotion to her family and friends. She touched the lives of many through her generous spirit, warm heart, and unwavering faith.
A devoted Christian, Sherrill faithfully followed Jesus Christ throughout her life. Her faith was the foundation of her character and guided her actions, relationships, and service to others. She found comfort and strength in God's promises and was an example of grace, compassion, and steadfast belief to those around her. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she has entered into the presence of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Sherrill was the beloved wife of Robert Canet, married just shy of 38 years. Together they shared a life filled with cherished memories, enduring love, and commitment to one another. Their marriage was a testament to partnership, strength, and devotion.
Family was at the center of Sherrill's life. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Earl Canet; her daughter, Sherrill “Annette” Hees and her husband, Douglas Nelson Hees; and her son, Shelton Eric Schriver and his wife, Katie DeAnn Schriver; and she was a proud and devoted grandmother to Sterling Austin Hees, Lauren Nicole Hees, Madison Elise Schriver, and Ethan Eric Schriver, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
Sherrill is also survived by her brother, Jerry Oetgen and his wife, Barb. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jack Oetgen.
Those who knew Sherrill will remember her for her compassion, her gentle nature, and the joy she brought to every gathering. Her special grape and broccoli salad always a requested favorite. Her gift of Christmas cookies for family and friends. Her passion for playing the accordion for the nursing home ministry and home fellowships. She found happiness in spending time with family and friends, creating lasting memories that will be treasured for generations.
Though she is no longer with us, Sherrill's legacy of love, grace, kindness, and faith will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her love will live on through her husband, children, grandchildren, brother, extended family, and the many friends whose lives she enriched.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who offered support, prayers, and compassion during this difficult time.
And I heard a voice from heaven saying, "Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from their hard work; for their good deeds follow them!" — Revelation 14:13
