Steve Dale Ellis

July 18, 1952 — April 12, 2026

Stephen “Steve” Dale Ellis, 73, of Houston, Texas, passed away on April 12, 2026 in Houston surrounded by family.

Born on July 18, 1952, in Goodrich, Texas, Steve spent most of his life in Houston, where he built a career, a family, and a life defined by perseverance, love, and quiet strength. He was a Chemical Engineer by trade, but a builder at heart, someone who could take on even the most complicated challenge and find a way through it. He worked for The Clorox Company for 38 years and was known for his steady guidance, practical wisdom, and ability to solve problems that seemed impossible. If you needed help, Steve was the kind of man who could get you to the moon if you simply asked him how.

Steve was a fighter in every sense of the word. Over the course of his life, he faced and overcame extraordinary medical challenges, including polio, a double lung transplant, and cancer. Through it all, he met life with courage, resilience, and grace. His strength was inspiring, but those who knew him best will remember that it was matched by his warmth, his generosity, and his deep devotion to the people he loved.

Above all else, Steve was a loving husband, caring father, and beloved granddaddy. He is survived by his wife, Quincie Ellis; his sons, Stephen Eric Ellis and Travis Ellis; and his grandsons, Stephen Foster Ellis, Reese Ellis, and Finn Ellis. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Bennie Ellis, and by his brothers, David Wayne Ellis and Marshall Taylor Ellis.

Steve had a quick smile, a strange sense of humor that those close to him treasured, and a gift for giving wonderful advice to the people he cared about most. He loved fixing things, enjoying great barbecue, and he took special joy in spoiling his grandsons. He made people feel cared for, capable, and understood. His presence brought comfort, his wisdom brought direction, and his love gave his family a foundation that will remain with them always.

A service to honor Steve’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service, with a graveside service to follow.
