Obit for Sybil Lee Henderson Gosnell
Sybil Lee Henderson Gosnell was born September 8, 1921 in a small community near Stigler, Haskell County, OK to parents, Granville Reeder Henderson and Maudie Leona Francis Heathcott Henderson. Sybil had one older sister, Gladys Fern Henderson, one younger brother, James Willard Henderson, and two younger sisters, Wanda Faye Henderson and Norma Jean Henderson. She had one older half-brother, J.D., from her mother' first marriage. Two other older half-brothers, Odis and Dale, and two older half-sisters, Cleo and Alta, were from her father' first marriage. Growing up, there were a total of ten children in the family with Sybil being number seven.
Sybil was raised on a farm near Midway, OK, working long hours helping her parents and sibling with the chores and growing into a vivacious, out-going young lady. After graduation from Haskell High School, she worked her way through the Tulsa Business College to become a secretary. She then moved to Muskogee, OK and was working for the Government Farm Subsidy Program when she fell in love with Paul Eugene Gosnell. They were married on June 23, 1942 and except for the war, were inseparable for almost 70 years. After having three boys, Paul Wayne, Larry Earl and David Lee, the family moved to the oil fields of West TX where Paul worked long days and countless nights while Sybil provided the anchor for their growing family. After moves to Midland, Ft. Worth, McAllen and Houston, she and Paul retired to Onalaska on Lake Livingston in 1985. After many happ6y years on the lake, they moved closer to town and settled in Livingston in 1994. Sybil was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Livingston and was active in community organizations, most notable AARP where she was the group' historian for many years.
Sybil is survived by her loving husband, Paul, her three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Martha; Larry and Ruth; and David and Barbara; her sister, Norma Jean Austin; one granddaughter, Christy Shawnee Gosnell Koteras; five grandsons, Colin Daniel Gosnell, David Brian Gosnell, Travis Lee Gosnell, Christopher Aaron Gosnell and Jeffrey Paul Gosnell; one great grandson, Dylan Michael Koteras; two great granddaughters, Kaitlyn Brooke Koteras and Lena Marie Gosnell; four extended granddaughters, Cora Denise Shirley, Courtney Deanne Miller and Mindy Raw Miller; three extended great grandchildren, Amber Lynn Shirley, and twins, Alyssa Rene Shirley and Jacob Wayne Shirley; and two extended great great grandchildren, Madison Avery Martin and Shayne Rhys Miller.
Visitation will be held at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, TX on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 beginning at 5:00 PM
Funeral services for Sybil will be held at First United Methodist Church in Livingston at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 29, 2011. Rev. James Frazier and Dr. Don Willis will conduct the services. Pallbearers will be Colin Gosnell, Brian Gosnell, Travis Gosnell, Chris Gosnell, Jeffrey Gosnell and Troy Koteras. Burial will be at Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble, TX at 2:00 PM. Cochran Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
