Tommie Dee Winfrey Carter was born May 28th, 1930 and went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 16, 2021. Tommie is preceded in death by her husband of 70 plus years, William (Billy) Carter; daughter, Phyllis Fly; her father, Justice Counts; mother, Maggie Keys; and step-father, James (Foot) Keys; sisters, Joyce Hogue and Polly Smith; step-brother, James Keys.
She is survived her son, William Dale Carter; daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Derek Walker; son-in-law, Billy Fly; grandchildren, Billy E. Fly and wife, Julie, Carter Fly, Jamee Webb, Kristen Illert and husband, Jason, Andy Bratton and wife, Maddie, Kaleb, Ashley, Thomas, Sarah, Anna and Victoria Carter as well as fifteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephew and cousins.
Tommie married Billy Carter in May of 1947 in Huntsville, Texas and they had three children. The two of them enjoyed spending time with their family and traveling. They made many trips to the mountains and bought property in Montana after Billy's retirement where they spent their summers. After a while they sold the Montana property and purchased property in Colorado for summer vacations so they would be a bit closer to home. Tommie loved cooking and baking for her family as well as canning any and every thing. If you ever left her house hungry it was your fault. Also, Tommie always spoke her mind so you never had any doubt what she thought about anything.
Tommie loved the Lord and was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church for many years. Tommie sang in the choir and served on several committees throughout the years. She loved visiting with and helping people and spent many hours driving those in need to and from doctor appointments and grocery shopping.
Tommie will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to express special thanks to the St. Joseph Hospice nurses and aides that cared for Tommie these last several years as well as Ms. Doris, Ms. Linda and Ms. Jackie who hold a special place in our hearts for all the love and care they gave Tommie.
Cochran Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Please sign our online guestbook at www.cochranfh.com .
