Obituary

Funeral services for Travis Fredrick Murphy, 98, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Monday, October 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Bro. David Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Peebles Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the service begins at 2:00 p.m.

Mr. Murphy was born in Wortham, Texas on September 27, 1921, as one of nine (9) children born to James Luther Murphy and Sarah Ruthie Jones Murphy. He grew up farming and in his younger years, moved to Houston, Texas and worked as a Burner/Welder for Moser Steel for 12 Years. Travis then joined Haynes B. Ownsby Drilling in Houston in the Fairbanks Field. He later transferred to the Schwab City Field in 1970 where he retired in 1986.

Mr. Murphy is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Travis is survived by four children, Vance Murphy and Kay of Bellville, Texas, Debbie Burch and Roy of Livingston, Texas, Toby Murphy and Katrina of Livingston, Texas and Cindy Millis and Kevin of Alamosa, Colorado; two sisters, Alexia Faulkner of Plano, Texas and Atrelle White of Wortham, Texas and one brother, Donnie Murphy and Gloria of Wortham, Texas.

Papaw's greatest joy in life was his thirteen grandchildren, Mike Murphy and Kim, Vanessa Murphy Kinney and Justin, Travis Murphy, Lance Murphy and Jessie, Jennifer Dasher, Calvin Dasher, Shea Gibson, Holly Dempsey and Beau, Natalie Lambert and Paul, Jackie Grimm and Steven, Chip Seagroves and Amanda, Sarah Berg and Tommy and Lacy Billings and Tanner; along with twenty three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  All the kids knew where Papaw's "Candy Drawer" and "Bottled IBC Root Beers" where.

He was an avid gardener and his produce, canned jellies and jams have been enjoyed by many.

In Travis' later years he was blessed with special nurses, Debby Mathews, her daughter, Destanie and Judy Arnold who brought him much comfort, care, joy and friendship.

The family of Travis Murphy would also like to recognize his longtime treasured friend of over fifty (50) years, Tincy Simpson, who has been considered a very special member of our family.
