Obituary
Funeral services for Velma Ree (Locke) Wilkinson, 87, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Bro. Lesly Wilkinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Bold Springs Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.
Mrs. Wilkinson was born June 29, 1929 in Livingston, Texas and passed away on May 1, 2017 at her residence. She often boasted that she had lived on the same parcel of land all of her 87 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Ida (Maze) Locke; husband, Dee Wilkinson; grandson, Jason Lowe; great-granddaughter, Lauren Jones; and son-in-law, Ronney Lowe.
She was a Baptist by faith and proudly raised her family of four. Velma married Dee Wilkinson on July 7, 1950. Prior to her marriage, she worked at several retail stores including Perry's and Gilliands. After her marriage to Dee, she became a homemaker taking care of her family. Being an excellent cook, her children often told her she should sell her cakes and pies. She also loved flowers as anyone that ever saw her yard in the spring could tell.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Wilkinson and Luther Thompson of Livingston, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Roy Wilkinson and Marlene of Rusk, Texas; daughter, Kathy Lowe of Livingston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mike Jones of Livingston, Texas; granddaughter and husband, Bria Lowe Morris and David of Livingston, Texas; grandson and wife, Brian Jones and Christie of Livingston, Texas; grandson and wife, Craig and Lindsey Jones of Livingston, Texas; granddaughter, Kelly Wilkinson of Rusk, Texas; great-grandchildren, Gage Morris, Jace Morris, Emily Jones, Abigail Jones, Lexi Jones and Lizzy Jones all of Livingston, Texas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Wilkinson will be escorted to her grave by pallbearers: Sammy Lattner, Kevin Burman, Josh Smith, Dwayne McGarrahan, Billy Shane Wilkinson, and Lesly Wilkinson.
