IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia Faye
Baker
August 9, 1930 – February 10, 2025
Mrs. Virginia Faye (Wright) Baker was born August 9, 1930 in Onalaska, Texas and passed away February 10, 2025 in Livingston, Texas.
Her early childhood years were spent in Onalaska, where she and her 5 siblings began grade school. She went on to graduate from Livingston High School in 1948. She remained close friends and had regularly scheduled lunches with old classmates Joyce Agan, Alene Holder, Dusty Peebles, and Faylene Haynes, Mrs. Baker attended 2 years of business school in Houston, before returning to Livingston to marry Wayne Reed Baker at the age of 21.
She and Wayne had 2 sons, W.R. and Beaver, and established their homestead in Swartout. They were members of Goodrich Baptist Church for almost 50 years, and at the time of her passing Mrs. Baker was a member of First Baptist Church of Livingston. When the doors of Farm Bureau Insurance opened in Livingston, Mrs. Baker was employed as the secretary. She remained there for 43 years, until her retirement in 2013.
However, her greatest work was done within the walls of her home. Ma, MawMaw, Aunt Faye: she played many roles and had a great impact through multiple generations. She loved her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extras too. She never passed up a chance to rock a baby, and helped raise many along the way. She is fondly remembered as the best babysitter, with adventures of swimming, horseback riding, pea picking, cow milking, and even a few swats and switches.
Mrs. Baker lived life with vigor and carried herself with grace and assurance. A matriarchy that was founded in love, an open door, and unparalleled class. She had the brightest smile, charisma, good humor, and a love of the Houston Rockets. The last of the Wright siblings to pass, she ensured family traditions continued, and gatherings were held regularly at her home.
Mrs. Baker is proceeded in death by her husband Wayne Reed Baker; parents, Jesse Hill and Edna Carlilse Wright; her siblings Ralph (Pop) Wright, James (Doc) Wright, Bob Wright, Jessie Melba (Sis) Clarke, and LaNae Miller; Nephews Bill Clarke and Mark (Hocky) Clarke, Niece Pam Leggett, and great-niece Kristi Wright Amarantos
She is survived by sons, Wayne Reed and wife Sherry, Wright (Beaver) and wife Elisa, grandson Cody Baker and wife April, granddaughters Ginger Lilley and husband Micheal, Lindsey Rodriguez and husband Cesar, Jessie Clarke and husband Jay; great-grandchildren Libby, Hadley, Cord, Reed, Porter Kate, Emma, Rhett, and Autry.
Pallbearers: Cody Baker, Hadley Baker, Homer Barnes, Josh Clarke, Micheal Lilley, Cesar Rodriguez
Honorary Pallbearers: Jay Clarke, Gary Davis, Paul Evans, Chuck Hinton, Cecil Langston
A lifetime of kindness, love, dedication to family, and class is the legacy Mrs. Faye Baker leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children.
