Obituary
Memorial services for Virginia Bessie Gatlin Tharp, 99, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Monday, June 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Jones Prairie Baptist Church in Leggett, Texas.
Mrs. Tharp was born July 4, 1915 in Millersview, Texas to parents, Jim Gatlin and Jessie (Edmunson) Gatlin, and she left for her permanent residence in Heaven on June 19, 2015 in Livingston, Texas. She was 15 days shy of her 100th birthday. She spent a large part of her life in Andrews, Texas where she retired after 25 years with the school system as a cafeteria manager. She then moved to Leggett, Texas and later, to Livingston. She is preceded in death by her parents; and son, Jimmy Tharp.
She is survived by daughters, Wanda Tharp DeShazo of Leggett, Texas and Sue Tharp Smith of Chester, Texas; son, Jerry Tharp of Lake Ivie, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildrem and numerous other relatives and friends. She was fondly called "Aunt Jinx" and loved gardening, yard work, turtles, and family, foremost of all.
