Funeral services for Walter Phillips Babbs, 95, of Goodrich, Texas, will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2015 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas. Interment will follow in the Peebles Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2015 beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the service begins.
Mr. Babbs was born June 22, 1920, in Barlow, Oregon to parents, Edwin Babbs and Minnie (Phillips) Babbs, and passed away on July 6, 2015 in Fulton, New York. During his life, he was in the Army and served in WWII as a cook in the Philippines from 1940-1945. Walter Babbs grew up on a farm and loved to garden. He lived in Goodrich, Texas where he had several gardens each year and shared his harvest with his neighbors. He was a member of the Chesswood Church and he worked as a security guard for a local company and volunteered in the senior center in Livingston. He loved to bowl, fish, golf and play horseshoes. Walter loved Texas baseball, basketball and football games. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hallie Babbs; sisters, Alice Smith and Charlene Frazee; brothers, John Babbs, Jim Babbs, and Earl Babbs.
He is survived by his son, James Edwin Babbs of Fulton, New York; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine Babbs Best and James of Fulton, New York; grandchildren, Brian Pringle, Russel Pringle, Sally Pringle Griffin, James Pringle, and Walter "Buzzy" Best; step grandchildren, James Best and Janice Best Scott; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, numerous other relatives and friends.
