Obituary

William Price ""Bill"" Carter, the eighth child of nine children, born to John Means Carter and Edna Jane Standifer Carter, was born at home the 10th day of April 1927, in Gatesville, TX and passed peacefully away surrounded by those that love him on the 16th day of February 2012.

At eighteen years of age, Bill enlisted in the Navy, later transferring to the Sea Bees where he proudly served with the 124th Naval Construction Battalion. Bill married Norene Sumerlin of Rotan, TX on January 11, 1946. After marrying, Bill and Norene moved from West Texas to the industrial area of the Houston ship channel, Pasadena, TX, where they raised their two daughters, Candyce L. Carter Thomas and Cynthia Lee Carter Barnes.

He retired from Solvay in 1988 to Livingston, TX, so he and Norene could enjoy their grandchildren and leisure activities. Humble, hardworking, honest, Bill amazed those around him with his industry, creativeness and skills. He enjoyed cooking, took special pride in his yard, worked hard at home and for others, helping with carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, building furniture (""a master jack-of-all trades""). Bill and Norene were members of Central Baptist Church.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, seven of his siblings and wife of 56 years, Norene. He is survived by daughters, Candyce C. Thomas and her husband, R. Claud Thomas of Livingston, TX, and Cynthia C. Barnes and her husband, T. Ellis Barnes III of St. Louis, MO; brother, Travis Carter and wife, Barbara of Austin, TX. He was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren, M. Ryan Thomas and wife, Lee Ann Woolley Thomas of Nacogdoches, TX, Russell Carter Thomas of Livingston, TX, Noelle Conners Lumelski and husband, Zev Lumelski of Miami, FL, Neil Matthew Thomas and wife, Amy Kennedy Thomas of Bozeman, MT, and Christina Lee Conner of St. Louis, MO. Bill was also the great grandfather to six great grandchildren, Emma, Carter, Mason, Micah, Megan and Zachary.

Bill' final months were filled with the care, devotion, love and spiritual strength provided by Lighthouse Hospice and special caregivers. To Dr. Luna, Denise, Rose, Pam, Mary Beth, Cherissa, Rose, Creola, Velma, Fay and Angela, we say, ""Thank you"" and how very blessed Bill and our family remain.

Funeral services for Bill will be held at 3:30 PM on Sunday, February 19, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston. Bro. Randall Whitt will conduct the services. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Claud Thomas, Neil Thomas, Russell Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Carlton Pierce, and Benny Marsh.
