Funeral services for William "Bill" Jenkins Jr., 94, of San Diego, California, formerly of Livingston, Texas will be held Sunday, July 5, 2015 at 2:00 P.M in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Richard Johnson officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Post #8568 honor guard. Interment will follow in the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 5, 2015 beginning at 1:00 P.M. until service begins.
William "Bill" Jenkins, Jr., son of William Durwood Jenkins, Sr., and Mittie Belle Barnes, entered this life on March 18, 1921 in College Park, Georgia and joined our Heavenly Father on June 30, 2015 in La Mesa, California at the age of 94.
He will be deeply missed by his daughters Dixie Riepl and Carolyn Hancock, son Richard Jenkins, grandchildren Jessica, Emily, Stephanie, Michael, Mark, Robert, and Eric, 10 great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Eva Jean Jenkins in 2012.
Bill enjoyed retirement in San Diego, California for the past 2 years. He proudly held a career until the age of 91 as an inspector in the home construction industry for over 20 years. Previous to that Bill owned his own business, Bartow Inc., for 15 years in the telecommunication & home building industries. In addition, he proudly served his country in the United States Marines 1939-1940, in the Norfolk, VA Navy shipyard 1940-1944 where he helped build the USS Alabama, the USS Shangri-La, and retrofitted the galley of the USS Midway, and then served in the United States Navy 1944-1947 as a submariner. After serving in the military, he went to flight school to become a pilot and enjoyed flying around the Southeast U.S. In the early 1990's Bill designed and helped members of the Community of Christ Church build their branch in Livingston, TX and served as an Elder and Pastor for 8 years. Friends and family remember Bill having a love for Civil War History, playing Chicken Foot, Crazy 8's, & 42, and telling stories about his amazing life. Bill's biggest pride and joy was his wife and their loving family. He was a man of service who loved his family, his country, his church, and his God.
