Obituary

Mr. William Douglas Salter, 84, of Onalaska, Texas was born October 6, 1931 in Baytown, Texas to parents, David M. Salter and Anita (Hanks) Salter Cooper and passed away October 21, 2015 in Port Arthur, Texas due to cancer. During his life, Mr. Salter served his country in the United States Air Force where he participated in the Berlin Airlift in 1947. He later served in the United States Marine Corp as well. He retired from the Cement Masons and Finishers Union. As with the family tradition, all of his sons also served their country in the U.S. military. After the military, Mr. Salter moved to Onalaska where he has resided since 1986. He is preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Faye Salter of Kirbyville, Texas; first wife, Shirley Salter of Sacramento, California; and his sister, Betty Casassa of Houston, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Salter of Onalaska, Texas; daughters, Diana and Frances of Sacramento, California; sons, Raymond and Wesley of Sacramento, California, Mark of Livingston, Texas, and William of Hermiston, Oregon; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, David R. Salter of Kirbyville, Texas and Charles Walker of Sacramento, California; sister, Martha Williams of Sacramento, California; 12 nieces and nephews; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
