Obituary

Funeral services for Clint Dickerson Poncho, 52, of Livingston, Texas will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2019 in the Indian Village Assembly of God Church with Rev. David Busby officiating.  Interment will follow in the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the Indian Village Assembly of God Church.

Clint was born December 20, 1966 into the Deer Clan in Galveston, Texas, to mother, Ida Langley, and passed away December 18, 2019 in Kingwood, Texas. He was a long-standing resident of Livingston, Texas.

He is survived by his mother, Ida Langley of Livingston; wife, Yolanda Poncho of Livingston; sons, Jason Williams and wife, Toahani, Hawk Poncho all of Livingston, and Shaundai Poncho and significant other, Brittany of Ignacio, Colorado; sisters, Marlene Robinson and husband, Randy, Jolyn Langley, Belvia Langley, Audrea Langley all of Livingston, Jeanie Martinez and husband, Eddie of Tomball, Kari Celestine of Diboll, and Kay Celestine and husband, Jeff of Diboll; brother, Jackson Langley and wife, Jennifer of Livingston, Texas; grandchildren, Minneah Williams, Kobey Williams, and Aiden Williams; uncles, James Cody Poncho and wife, Christine, Marcell Poncho, Vernon Poncho and wife, Geraldine, Sydney Poncho and wife, Grace, and Adrian Poncho and wife, Verna; special aunts, Sharon Morris, Jennifer Poncho, and Melinda Sylestine; and special friend, Tony Averitt; along with numerous other relatives, and friends.

During his life, Clint graduated from Big Sandy High in 1985, eventually attending Haskell Indian Junior College, where he has remained friends with many classmates to this day.  He served in many great capacities within the Alabama-Coushatta community.  He worked as the Recreation Director for 24 years and served on the Alabama-Coushatta Powwow Association as a member and Chairman for many years.  He promoted economic advancement for his people across the state of Texas during his three terms on the Tribal Council and most presently, as a Public Relations Consultant for Naskila Gaming.  Clint was a strong advocate for Alabama-Coushatta tribal culture and American Indian traditions as he danced in powwows across the nation, first as a Fancy Dancer and most presently, as a Southern Straight Dancer.  He was currently teaching his beloved grandson, Kobey, to dance in his footsteps.  He spoke his Albamu and Koasati languages fluently and was known to many as a great storyteller.  His incredible sense of humor distinguished him as being one to never meet a stranger.

A devoted husband, caring father, loving grandfather, a great brother and a friend to many, Clint will be dearly missed.  His words of encouragement, empowerment, and many jokes always came at the right time when it was needed.
